When in Rome... set fire to the stations

well today was quite the adventure. we - as in myself, the sister and mum - decided to go to rome.

mission: find jewellery for the wedding.

and so we went...
after many visits to rome, the route is now embedded in my memory. so this trip should have been no problem!.. easy, breezy... except for the fact that the main station we had to get to had burned down and no one told us!
of course this would happen!...
okay well it didn't completely burn down. there was a major fire months ago. and with italian workers this should be all cleaned up by what? 2015?
so whatever idiot started this fire totally disrupted our route, taking us for a detour trying to figure out how the hell we get to rome and how the hell to go home! (haha rhyme time).

we eventually figured it out. as for explaining the new rome route to the people arriving this week for the wedding... well that's a different story. and we'll worry about that later...

so here's some pics from my day out in rome!

fontana di trevi & piazza di spagna

first thing we saw was the fontana di trevi. i wanted to see this because there's a shoe store there i like :) plus we can never seem to remember exactly what street this fountain is on! and if we were going to get lost, might as well be the first part of our day. luckily we did get lost though because on the way we stopped at this ovs store and they had this really cute fall coat... like really cute! but they didn't have my size! sad day :( so i bought some cool poncho/cape/scarf thing. but i'm on the hunt for that coat!!

we then made our way to piazza di spagna, walking down via del corso. this street is a must for our rome shopping trips. especially the kiko store! this place is very dangerous to the makeup freaks. i love their nail polish. you think you have all the colours, but every trip there's always a new shade! i thought i'd buy maybe 4... but 70 euros later! my gad... oh wells!
continued on, my mum found a shirt from mango. the size she needed was on the mannequin. so she made the lady amputate her arms to get the shirt. poor mannequin... down via dei condotti now. the designer street... it's nice to window shop. sad note is that my beloved D&G store is gone!! that's the only store that's affordable in this area... i go there for my jewellery! why do people suck?

all that walking around made us hungry. and when in rome... have espresso and eat mcdonald's. first one of the trip. this coffee was the gran crema cafe. i had a yummy creamed coffee last week and i was hoping to find another. it was soooooo good. i don't drink coffee or espresso or cappuccinos and all that. but that creamed coffee was bomb. they lined the bottom with chocolate and the coffee was whipped into cream. delicious. this one in the photo however was the imitation! disappointment. still good. more like a tim horton's ice cap. but not what i wanted.

after a long day and no jewellery we called it quits and made our way home... well tried to! the train station tiburtina is usually where we get our train back to tivoli. but we weren't sure how this was going to work. it said tivoli platform 4. but when you actually walk to platform 4, it's closed off. probably cuz of the stupid fire! so we had to take a shuttle bus to prenestina station and wait there. we had the right platform, just at the wrong damn station! took us over an hour to figure what train and where to go and how to get there and all that jazz. too much confusion for our first day out.
and to think... in about a week when we're off touring italy, we're going to have to do this with about 10 people... PLUS luggages! major suckage right there.

so none of us ended up buying any jewellery...
but i did find this reusable tote bag at the disney store! 1.50 euros!
